A Long Silence

  • It has been a while since I last posted on the forum. Please don't panic we're not dead, in fact we've not even been just resting. We have just been very busy just doing the less glamorous parts of game development. However I have promised myself to spend more time around here so I will start doing more updates about what we have been doing and what will be happening.

See the thing is making the choice of should we update to the latest version of Visual Studio or not, is a rather important but not the kind of thing the average gamer really factors in when considering which game to choose. Although in case I am wrong for the record we did update.

We have also been going through the game, testing and fixing things. Now although I am sure you are all pleased to hear this, it is not really something I need to tell you we are doing. You do sort of expect game developer to do exactly that kind of thing. The reason I am telling you is of course to explain why I haven't been telling you what we have been doing.

However I do actually have a little real news as well, which is the main reason why I am back posting. We are in the process of discussing things like potential release dates. Obviously it won't be October like I posted here before. Still there will be more and varied news on the horizon.

  • If I may ask, are you deciding between VS 2010 and 2013? I'm a second year college computer science student and I've got them both. VS 2013 certainly has a better UI, and I'm guessing a slightly better debugger, but what else is so important between them? Is it the "feature" of not being able to edit source code in other versions of VS once VS 2013 opens it? I really, really hated that...

  • We switched from 2012 to 2013, and I checked with Pontus and we saw no real change with the compiler. What we go were additional development tools. The thing was if the compiler was better then we couldn't pass up the chance to use it.

  • Ah, okay then. Additional development tools are always a plus. Hopefully the thousands of dollars to upgrade were worth it.

  • Let me assure we most definitely did not go for the Ultimate edition. We are not that rich. :)

  • I did a quick search and Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate costs over 13 thousand dollars. That's why I love Microsoft's DreamSpark program. I have both 2010 and 2013 Ultimate (and it didn't cost me a cent). :D
